Fewer guns confiscated at Jacksonville’s airport

Fewer people are trying to take their guns onto planes in Jacksonville.

The Transportation Security Administration says it’s found 27 guns so far this year, 25% fewer than the first six months last year at Jacksonville International Airport. That’s despite an increase in the number of passengers screened in the first half of this year.

Overall at Florida airports, the TSA says the number of guns has dropped 3.5% compared with the first half of last year.

Guns can be transported on commercial flights only if they are unloaded and packed in a locked, hard-sided case.

Penalties for trying to carry a weapon onto a plane include criminal citations, arrest or having your TSA Pre-Check eligibility pulled.
